Oil on canvas contemporary impressionist painting. Part of my 'Safe Place' series.
I read of women returning home from the Iraq war and connected with the images. Although nothing in comparison to their experiences, I was returning to using my home and the safety of my home after all its downstairs was destroyed by floodwater and sewage. The loss of 'home' is much more than bricks and mortar it is my safety, my safe place in the world. When this is lost it is extremely difficult to function until safety is restored. I thought also of refugees and people who are homeless.
